When You Exist in the Reality of God

Fact number one: God is reality.

Fact number two: You exist as God created you and are part of that reality.

Fact number three: You can never escape

Virtual reality is often used as a way to create our own world with rules of our choosing in place. It is a personalized, idealized universe made by man, usually as a playground. It has been the pipedream of many through time to escape the reality of this world and make another. This has been expressed through fictional tales, literature and plays for thousands of years. One would have to ask the question: why? What is so wrong with what we have that someone would desire the impossible? It is not as though any of us can create our own actual world. We are creative, but anything we build or manufacture still lies within the realm and limitations of reality. Nothing escapes that. Nothing escapes the reality of God. Man wants to make his own way. But there are obvious and powerful limitations.

Psalm 139:1-16

O Lord, You have searched me and known me.

You know my sitting down and my rising up;

You understand my thought afar off.

You comprehend my path and my lying down,

And are acquainted with all my ways.

For there is not a word on my tongue,

But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.

You have hedged me behind and before,

And laid Your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;

It is high, I cannot attain it.

Where can I go from Your Spirit?

Or where can I flee from Your presence?

If I ascend into heaven, You are there;

If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.

If I take the wings of the morning,

And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,

Even there Your hand shall lead me,

And Your right hand shall hold me.

If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,”

Even the night shall be light about me;

Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You,

But the night shines as the day;

The darkness and the light are both alike to You.
For You formed my inward parts;

You covered me in my mother’s womb.

I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

Marvelous are Your works,

And that my soul knows very well.

My frame was not hidden from You,

When I was made in secret,

And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.

And in Your book they all were written,

The days fashioned for me,

When as yet there were none of them.

This was written by David. In this psalm he expresses the truth of his condition. David exists because God created him. David has current thoughts and actions as well as future thoughts and actions. God knows them all – For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. David can write poetry, fight a war and rule a country. He lives, breaths and thinks but none of this is done in the absence of God. None of this is done without the knowledge of God. Nor could it ever be. All of this is because of God. There is nowhere David can go. Any place where it is possible for David to go, such as “the uttermost parts of the sea,” is in the creation of God. Places where David could never travel on his own, such as heaven and hell, are still in the creation of God. David cannot escape God nor can he escape reality. God created everything that exists. Every object, every place and everyone that makes up reality was made real by God and put exactly where He wanted in time and space. God is the originator of the universe with everything in it (humanity, planets, continents) and everything beyond it (heaven and hell). Therefore, He is the originator of reality. As David declared there is no place you can go from His presence. There is no place to go from His will, His law or His authority. The one who hates God will always have a hard time with reality. It all belongs to Him. As David said, “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me.”
